IS HYATT ZIVA CANCUN THE RIGHT RESORT FOR YOU?

Hyatt Ziva Cancun - where family fun meets all-inclusive luxury, right in the heart of Cancun!

Selecting the perfect resort for your vacation, destination wedding, or group getaway can sometimes be overwhelming.

Even after hours of research and reading countless reviews, you might find yourself more perplexed than when you started.

This is where I step in!

Throughout the year, I personally explore a range of resorts to bring you genuine, firsthand insights. My mission is to make your choice easier by sharing my experiences, guiding you to find out if a resort truly aligns with what you're looking for.

So, let's get to it:

Is Hyatt Ziva Cancun the right resort for your next vacation?

ABOUT THE RESORT

Hyatt Ziva Cancun is like the unicorn of resorts –

-Want a resort with multiple ocean front options- this one is surrounded on three sides by different views of the ocean due to being at the tip of the peninsula!

-Family-friendly? Absolutely. But hey, they’ve got an adults-only tower too because... balance.

- All-you-can-eat? You bet. And for the sweet-toothed in the family, there's a whole shop of treats. Literally, it’s an entire sweet shop!

-Fancy swimming with dolphins without leaving the resort? Guess what, you can do that right here!

-And if you're looking to zip from plane to paradise, they’re just 14 miles from Cancun airport.

See why I say say it’s a unicorn!

CHECK-IN:

We rolled into the resort at about 1 PM, fresh from a drive where our littlest darling decided to go full 'Exorcist' on me. Let's skip the gory details, but let's just say I was a walking, talking modern art piece in vomit.

The second I stepped out of the car, the resort staff turned into superheroes, whisking me away to get cleaned up. They even made sure we had a room pronto so I could get out of the clothes, shower, and change. I can't recall if there was champagne or a cool towel greeting us – the staff was too busy being awesome and tending to our crisis.

THE ROOMS:

The hotel has three distinct guest room buildings, each with their own unique charm and atmosphere.

The star of the show is the pyramid building, with rooms that offer views of everything from the standard resort to the ocean, not forgetting the dolphin-pool-view rooms (yes, dolphins!) and fancy swim-up suites.

This is the building our room was located in. We chose the Dolphin Master Suite so that our kiddos could step out onto our balcony and watch the dolphins! The room had a king bed and a sleeper sofa. My parents joined us on this trip, and our 13-year-old son bunked with them. Just a heads-up, most rooms here have a max occupancy of 4.

Next up is the Club Tower, stretching up a whopping 17 floors! This is where the hotel's swanky club rooms and suites reside, offering a taste of the high life with VIP check-in and checkout, posh bath treats, and a cool, air-conditioned club lounge. Now, I'm usually all over Club Level rooms like a moth to a flame, but this time I hit pause. Splurging on the extra cost for my kids felt a bit like pouring money down the drain – they're pretty oblivious to the whole 'upgraded luxury' scene.

Last but not least is Turquoize, the grown-ups' paradise. This adults-only luxury wing rolls out the red carpet with butler services that make you feel like royalty, and private Jacuzzis on each balcony for those 'soak and gaze at the stars' kind of nights. If you’re a FTK type of parent…this is where you want to stay! My husband and I do plan to sneak away soon and stay in this tower.

Something that is important to note is if you have a family of 5, you will likely need to get two separate rooms. Luckily, this resort does offer guaranteed connecting rooms! There's a small catch though – a nightly fee of about 30 bucks per room to guarantee this. You also need to book rooms in the same category- think oceanfront king meets oceanfront double.

The rooms to me were more functional than cozy. Let’s just say, I didn’t walk in and have my breath taken away like I do at some resorts. However, it did its job! They even wheeled in an adorable little baby bed for the baby, which was a sweet touch. The bathroom was roomy enough, though not quite the sprawling space you might find at other resorts.

FOOD AND DRINKS:

I always say it, and I'll say it again – if you're a foodie, finding an all-inclusive that satisfies those gourmet cravings can be like searching for a needle in a haystack. And a family-friendly one? Even tougher! But, I've got to hand it to Hyatt Ziva Cancun – they break the mold. Ranging from 'pretty good' to 'wow, this is amazing', they really surpassed my expectations!

Between bites, I was sipping away happily. The alcohol selection was top-notch, boasting big names like Belvedere and Grey Goose, Johnnie Walker Black, and a parade of tequilas including Don Julio and Herradura. The bartenders were super friendly and always ready to whip up my next drink.

Now, for something I’ve never seen at a resort… Hyatt Ziva has an upscale microbrewery that's brewing right on site! It's got this chill vibe with pool tables, TVs, and a laid-back, grown-up feel. It's perfect for rainy afternoons or lively nights, though I must admit, I'm more of an 'outdoorsy, margarita-in-hand' kind of gal. But having an indoor pub option? Pretty cool.

And for the kiddos (and let's be real, us adults too), the Pasteles Dessert Shop is like walking into CandyLand. Chocolate fountains, marshmallows, ice cream, cotton candy, and a candy bonanza – it's a child's paradise. Not a marshmallow fan? No problemo, just sneak over to the connected coffee cafe for your morning or evening caffeine fix.

Speaking of coffee, let's talk about Casa Cafe. Open bright and early at 6 AM (just like our baby's internal clock), it was our go-to for 'first breakfast' with strong coffee and tempting baked treats. It's got this chic decor that might just make you snap a coffee-floor Instagram pic. Which of course I did.

If you're craving some Americana, Chevy's American Diner is a hop, skip, and a jump away by the pool. It's got this cool retro Chevy you can dine in! Hot dogs, fries, milkshakes – it's classic, easy-going poolside fare. It was perfect after a day in the sun!

Lorenzo's was our Italian go-to for the fam. From antipasti to custom spaghetti and shrimp, they had us at 'hello.' They even wowed our big kids with Shirley Temples.

The crown jewel of my culinary adventures at Hyatt Ziva Cancun? Hands down, the lunches we had beachside at Habaneros Shack. I LOVED the breezy, ocean front, open-air vibe.

Our 13-year-old was practically a room hermit – I'll get into that in a bit – but seriously, I think he sampled just about every dish on the 24/7 room service menu. He definitely gave his approval.

Clearly, we didn't manage to conquer every option during our stay. We had to leave something for the next visit, but everything we did sample was amazing.

AMMENITIES:

The all-inclusive fun at the hotel wasn't just about the endless food and drinks. Let's talk pools - they had three big ones! The first, and the liveliest, sat right in the heart of the resort, a hop, skip, and a jump down from the main lobby. Picture loads of chaise loungers, a swim-up bar, and a Jacuzzi – all the essentials for a pool day.

We went at the end of May…and just a heads up, there were SEVERAL senior trips happening at that time. The main pool, with the swimup bar, was FULL of 18 year olds living their best life. It was a little much for us, so we spent time at the other areas.

Right near the lobby is also where you'll find the dolphin pool, home to the four finned celebrities. The dolphin encounters, run by Delphinus, were an extra charge. We planned to try this experience, but remember the saga of my little one falling ill? Well, the bug decided to take a tour – 24 hours later, our 12-year-old daughter caught it, and then, 12 hours after that, our 13-year-old son joined the sick club. So, the dolphin escapade had to take a rain check this time around!

The resort also has a kids club, perfect for the little ones. It's a pint-sized waterpark heaven with a bonus indoor play area for those who prefer less sun and more fun. Our youngest was a tad too small to join in, and our older ones had outgrown this level of fun, but for the 4 to 11-year-old crowd, it's perfect!

Now, one floor up from the lobby, there was this exclusive infinity pool for the Turquoize Tower guests – talk about swimming in style. I didn't get to dip in there, but it looked fab. Then there was a more chilled-out pool nestled between the Club and Turquoize towers. Smaller, sure, but oh-so-peaceful and away from the senior trip crowd, with a lukewarm Jacuzzi that was just what the doctor ordered after a day out and about.

And for the fitness fanatics like myself, the 24/7 gym was decked out with all the machines and weights! It was truly one of the largest gyms I’ve seen at a resort.

I didn’t get the chance to check out the spa, but the word on the street (or poolside) is that it’s pretty spectacular!

THE STAFF:

I do have to commend the staff at Hyatt Ziva Cancun for their exceptional service. From our arrival with an unwell child, through the entire duration of our family's bout with a stomach bug, their efforts were outstanding. We did end up having to call in the doctor, and our 12-year-old daughter received a shot. The quantity of sheets and pillows provided by the housekeeping team was astonishing. Both the doctor and the resort manager followed up with us several times. Their dedication and care throughout our ordeal left a lasting impression on us.

DESTINATION WEDDINGS:

….this will likely speak volumes about the quality of this resort…

Aaron and I are actually heavily weighing having our 5 year vow renewal at this property. I absolutely fell in love with the Lighthouse Gazebo Venue. I also loved the Firepits Area Venue for a reception option.

If you're dreaming of a breathtaking ocean view without the sandy toes, they've got you covered with four terrace venues! But, if sandy toes are your thing, there's a beach venue just for you!

This property really hits the mark for families looking for the perfect blend of adult-only elegance and kid-friendly fun.

A heads-up though: the resort has a pretty firm policy on external vendors for weddings. Unlike some resorts that might let slide the outside vendor fee for a 3-night stay, this one sticks to its guns. They charge a $1500 per day, per vendor for their services. Sure, they have a list of approved vendors, but I get it, sometimes you've just got your heart set on a particular photographer or videographer.

AUBREE’S TAKEAWAYS:

THINGS YOU SHOULD KNOW BEFORE YOU GO….

  • This resort is quite popular for senior trips, so you might want to steer clear during the last few weeks of May and the first week of June, especially if the sight of overly intoxicated 18-year-olds isn't your cup of tea. We witnessed teens so drunk they were stumbling into the pool fully clothed. It's important to note that this isn't unusual for lively resorts – we've encountered similar scenes at numerous other resorts during this time, particularly with senior trips. However, thanks to its higher price point, this resort tends to attract fewer such incidents compared to our experience at some resorts.

  • Hyatt Ziva Cancun is perfect those who love snorkeling. Its unique position on a peninsula ensures that the surrounding waters are typically calm and crystal clear, making it an ideal spot for snorkeling adventures. Our family spent countless hours exploring underwater! We brought along full-face snorkel masks, which I highly recommend. They allowed us to stay submerged and watch the fish continuously without needing to surface for air! Do yourself a favor and snag these!

  • Going back to this resort being a unicorn…it stands out for its almost magical ability to dodge the sargassum seaweed, which often crashes many Caribbean beach parties. The resort is usually spared from the sargassum invasion. This means the beaches at Hyatt Ziva are consistently postcard-perfect all year round, letting you enjoy those sandy strolls and ocean dips without the smell of unwanted seaweed.

  • If you are the can’t sit still type, you can kayak and paddle-board for free on the beach!

  • There is an ATM on site if you need to grab some extra cash while visiting.

  • A pre-authorized hold will be placed on your card at check-in. A good rule of thumb for this is $100 per day. It could be more or less, but this is usually the amount. This resort accepts Visa, Mastercard, and American Express. I do not believe they accept Discover, so make sure to bring one of the other options!

SO, WHO IS THIS RESORT FOR?

  • Family Vacationers: This resort IS FOR the paernt that really want an adult’s only resort, but they have to bring their kids. The entire resort is more adult’s only centered…but they allow children, which makes it GREAT for families with tiny tots. It's not super huge, which means less trekking around, which is super handy when it's nap time for your little ones. Plus, there's a “kiddie” pool with a cover that's only about a foot deep in spots. The ocean is also super gentle, so your little beach bum can happily splash around at the shoreline. Sandcastles.

  • Multi-Generational Groups: Tying the knot, traveling with the whole gang, or bringing everyone in the family? This resort is your go-to! With a layout that's easy for both the young ones and the young-at-heart, everyone can roam around with ease.

  • Senior Trips: If you're planning a senior trip, this place is a hit! As stated already, we saw a bunch of senior groups having the time of their lives during our stay. The teens were absolutely loving it! Its proximity to downtown is a major plus. Just steps away, you'll find Coco Bongo, famous for its vibrant atmosphere and entertainment. This location is crucial for keeping an eye on teens – they can easily find themselves in the heart of downtown action in no time. Ideal for groups who want the excitement of the city close at hand while being able to monitor their younger members.

  • Fitness Enthusiasts: The resort has a massive gym, one of the largest I’ve personally seen at a resorts, making it perfect for those who love to stay active even on vacation. There's also a juice bar not far from the gym that’s open in the mornings, complete with protein boosts and all sorts of health and wellness options. It's the perfect spot to refuel after the workout!

  • Couples and Honeymooners: Hyatt Ziva Cancun's adults-only vibe, despite being kid-friendly, makes it a romantic destination for couples. I would highly recommend us booking you in the Turqoize Tower if you go with this resort. That way you have that true adult’s only experience!

WHO MIGHT NOT BE THE BEST FOR FOR THIS RESORT:

  • Families with Teenagers (12-17 years old): Hyatt Ziva Cancun might not be the best choice for families with older children, particularly those between 12 and 17 years old. My 12 and 13-year-old, to put it mildly, were bored stiff. This could partly be because we had just come from the excitement of Nickelodeon Riviera Maya OR it could be because they were fighting that stomach virus I spoke about. However, it's worth noting that this resort doesn't have features like water slides or a dedicated water park, which are typically popular with teenagers. If a teen isn't interested in snorkeling, lounging, or just swimming in the pool, they might find themselves somewhat unenthusiastic about the offerings here.

  • Budget-Conscious Travelers: Those who are traveling on a tight budget may find the resort a bit too pricey, as it offers a range of upscale amenities and services that could be beyond their financial comfort zone.

  • Travelers Seeking A Quiet Retreat: Travelers looking for a serene, solitary getaway might not find the family-oriented, lively atmosphere of Hyatt Ziva Cancun to their liking, especially if they prefer more secluded or quiet destinations.

IS SECRETS TULUM THE RIGHT RESORT FOR YOU?

THE FIRST ADULTS ONLY, ALL-INCLUSIVE IN THE HEART OF TULUM.

Choosing the right resort for your vacation, destination wedding, or group trip can often feel like a daunting task.

Despite all the reading and research, sometimes you're left more confused than convinced.

That's where I come in!

Throughout the year, I visit various resorts to provide authentic, firsthand reviews. My goal is to simplify your decision-making process by sharing my experiences, helping you determine if a resort is the perfect match for your needs.

Now, let's dive into the heart of the matter:

Is Secrets Tulum and Beach Club the right choice for you?

ABOUT THE RESORT

Secrets Tulum is the first of its kind in many ways! Not only is it the only hybrid resort with jungle and beach accommodations in Tulum, but it also offers unique destination wedding venues and ceremonies, as well as wellness programs.

Unlike many resorts in Mexico and the Caribbean that are situated directly on the beachfront, Secrets Tulum is located downtown. If you’re worried about beach access, don’t be, this resort has it’s own Beach Club just right down the road (more info on the shuttle down below). And, yes, your all-inclusive package is honored at the Beach Club. They are open from 10 AM - 5 PM.

If you fly into Cancun, buckle up for a long haul drive. It took us around 2 hours to reach the resort! However, with the upcoming Tulum airport opening, this will significantly shorten the drive, situated just 25 miles away, compared to the 73-mile distance from Cancun airport!

CHECK-IN

We arrived at the resort around 11:30 AM and were greeted with a glass of cold champagne and a cool towel, a welcome touch in Tulum's humidity. We were then escorted to the Preferred Club for a private check-in, where we could mix our own drinks while we waited.

Our rooms weren’t quite ready when we arrived, which we expected due to us arriving earlier than than the normal 3pm check-in time, so we decided to make the most of our time by lounging at the pool! We soaked up some sun, enjoyed some margaritas, and chips and guac until 3:30 when our rooms were ready!

THE ROOMS:

Stepping into our room at Secrets Tulum, I was struck by its size – it was massive, and I’m not kidding, the restroom was huge!

The resort has 300 suites, each featuring a private balcony or terrace. The rooms also have 24/7 room service and a fully-stocked mini bar, which is restocked daily. During our trip, our mini-bar was never restocked, but a quick call to the front desk would've fixed that out. Honestly, we were too busy exploring to mind, so it wasn’t a big deal to us.

Each suite comes with a soaking tub and a rain shower –I am a sucker for a soaking tub. I love the design of the rooms, it definitely reminded me of the rooms at Secrets Moxché.

Now, a heads-up about the restroom layout: it's pretty open, meaning if you're taking a shower and your travel buddy orders room service, prepare for a little 'hello' moment with the attendant! Thankfully, the toilet area does have a door for privacy. Just the shower area is, let's say, 'socially open.'

About that shower – Tulum seems to have a thing with lukewarm water. I experienced this at a boutique hotel before coming here too. Hot showers are a bit of a luxury in Tulum, so brace yourself for a refreshingly cool experience. It's not just a Secrets Tulum quirk; it's a Tulum-wide charm!

If you can afford it, the upgrade to the Preferred Club Master Suite Rooftop with Plunge Pool, especially if you are a destination couple, you should. You can actually host a cocktail party on the terrace for up to 30 guests (a 2 night minimum stay is required). How fun would that be for a welcome party with your guests or wedding party!?!

Food and Drinks:

Alright, foodies and cocktail lovers, let's dive into it! This resort has 10 different dining options, as well as 5 bars, so something for everyone.

The Asian/Peruvian Fusion and Mediterranean options were a breath of fresh air for a Secrets resort. It seems like Secrets Tulum is shaking things up with some new culinary adventures, which, I’m here for! But, if I’m being honest, I love the Italian option that most Secrets/Dreams properties have, so I was a little disappointed that it wasn’t available.

Now, let's talk about my top pick: the Bluewater Grill. It takes 'eating under the stars' to a whole new level. This restaurant is exclusive to Preferred Club members for breakfast and lunch, but opens for everyone at dinner. Finding it might feel like you need a compass and a master's in navigation, but once you discover it, you'll realize it's an absolute hidden treasure!

Pro tip for Bluewater Grill - Make sure you bring mosquitos spray or you will have a miserable time.

The outdoor grills by the main pool were great! Verandha has a full menu, but Barefoot Grill only has fast food options. With that being said, the cheese fries slap after a day of drinking!

Just a little side note, if you’re a true foodie, then all-inclusive resorts are never going to compare to non all-inclusive properties. All-inclusives are more about fun and variety than haute cuisine. It's like comparing a juicy burger to a gourmet steak – both awesome, but in totally different leagues.

Onto the drinks! My personal test for any resort is availability of espresso martinis. And let me tell you, Secrets Tulum passed with flying colors. I had no problem finding this caffeinated cocktail at most of their bars. Also, margaritas with a Tajín rim. I truly believe resorts that offer Tajín are superior to those that do not.

Bonus story: One morning, I woke up with the worst hangover of my life. But, the wizard bartender at the main pool bar whipped up some concoction of drinks that miraculously cured my hangover! Next time, I'm getting his name and the secret recipe, because you're going to need it!

Pro-tip: The Coco Cafe is open 24/7 for small bites and caffeine…but it is not easily found. You will need to go to the lobby, walk towards the parking lot like you are leaving the resort, and take a right near the Bellman’s desk.

Destination Weddings:

Nestled in the heart of the jungle, Secrets Tulum is the ultimate destination for couples seeking an extraordinary wedding experience. It’s for the couple that wants something a little different…something outside the box.

Step into a world where holistic weddings are not just an idea, but a reality. Secrets Tulum is amongst the first to embrace this groundbreaking concept, where every detail is infused with a sense of wellness and harmony. Picture your special day under the twinkling stars, where a full moon ceremony, on the Sky Terrace, awaits to purify and rejuvenate your body and spirit. This is not just a wedding; it's a soulful journey for you and up to 30 guests, promising intimacy and magic in every moment.

For those drawn to the mystical, their poolside venue offers a ceremony led by a revered shaman. It's a path to connect with ancient traditions, adding a layer of meaning to your union.

Dreaming of a wedding that literally walks on water? The Sky Pool Terrace would be perfect. With an acrylic overlay, it transforms into a breathtaking over-water aisle, making your walk towards forever a surreal experience. Note that this dreamy setup comes with an additional fee, but trust me, it's worth every penny.

Secrets Tulum does have a 10:30 PM rooftop curfew for receptions. However, for the night owls and party spirits, they offer an exclusive twist. You can create your own nightclub within one of the ballrooms, complete with lounges, DJs, and bars, and dance the night away without a worry about the time.

Beach lovers, you’re not left out! Even though the resort is not ocean front, their beach club is! You have the choice of three beach venues: the Poolside Deck, the Secrets Villa Terrace, or a barefoot ceremony on the beach.

***For those planning a beach getaway or destination wedding to Tulum, it's important to note a seasonal occurrence. While Tulum's beaches are renowned for their breathtaking beauty, they, like many coastal areas, experience a period known as 'sargassum season.' Generally, this occurs from April through October, with the peak usually falling between June and September. During these months, the shores may be greatly affected by sargassum seaweed, a natural event that varies in intensity each year.

AUBREE’S TAKEAWAYS:

THINGS YOU SHOULD KNOW BEFORE YOU GO….

It's common knowledge that visiting a resort within the first 8-9 months of its opening might come with a few hiccups as they iron out the initial kinks. So, keep in mind that some of the issues I mention below may already be resolved by the time you plan your visit.

  • Let’s address the biggest elephant in the room…the sand. Yes, it’s everywhere. No, you will not be able to get from one place to the next without it getting on your feet. If you're prepared for this sandy situation, it's really not a major concern. However, I can understand how it might come as an unwelcome surprise for those unaware of it. It should also be noted that this isn’t just specific to this resort…Tulum in general is just sandy.

  • Pack mosquito spray! They will eat you alive at this resort. Especially at the Blue Water Grill.

  • There’s not an ATM on site-this should come with time.

  • A shuttle for the Beach Club runs often, and without traffic takes about 20 minutes to reach. However, be prepared for possible delays due to congestion, especially during peak travel periods. If you opt for a taxi, the fare is approximately $40 for a one-way trip.

  • Speaking of the Beach Club, it is STUNNING! It opens at 10 AM, but they did not start serving food or drinks until 11 AM. To ensure a great beach chair option, the early bird gets the worm.

  • The pool servers are fabulous! Seriously, amazing.

  • The hotel is not finished and there is construction in some areas.

  • There’s not a lot when it comes to nightly entertainment. I believe this is because you are in the midst of Tulum and you are surrounded by entertainment options. Let’s be honest, it’s hard to compete with Rosa Negra!

  • I loved the daily classes and activities that were offered! They offered Sound Healing, Mindfulness, Yoga, Cacao Ceremonies, Custom Hat Workshops, Foam Parties, and so much more! The only thing I will note on this, is the resort needs to be a bit more organized on where the activities take place. I wanted to attend the Sound Healing class one morning, but no one at the resort seemed to know where or when it was going to take place. The app said one thing, the staff said something different, and both were wrong. I ended up missing it after walking at least 10k steps trying to find it.

  • Speaking of….steps, be prepared to get lost the first few days with the setup. You will eventually get it down, but the amount of times we were turned around and going the wrong way is countless.

  • The Grotto section of the resort is for Preferred Club Members, and this is where we spent the vast majority of our time. It’s a bit small…and can get a bit loud in the afternoon!

SO, WHO IS THIS RESORT FOR?

  • Secrets Tulum stands out as a great choice for destination wedding couples seeking something beyond the conventional resort offerings. This venue is particularly unique for those drawn to spiritual and wellness-themed weddings. The resort's focus on wellness and spiritual wellbeing provides an array of distinctive experiences. Couples could incorporate elements like a serene beachfront yoga session on the morning of the wedding, or a traditional Mayan blessing ceremony, adding a deeply cultural and spiritual dimension to their special day.

  • This resort is perfect for travelers who want a tropical paradise centered around magnificent pools, while not placing a high priority on ocean activities. Here, they can go for a refreshing swim, enjoy aquatic activities, or simply bask in the sun with a cocktail in hand.

  • Secrets Tulum is a great choice for travelers who wish to experience the unique charm of Tulum while enjoying the convenience and luxury of an all-inclusive property. They can relish in a wide array of culinary delights and beverage options without the hassle of keeping track of every meal and drink expense.

  • I really feel like bachelorette trips would be a blast here! I don’t feel like it would be the same for bachelor parties. I have absolutely no reasoning behind that thought, except that’s just how I feel.

  • This would be a great option for a company retreat. You could easily blend team-building and relaxation.

  • With this resort not being super high energy, it would be perfect for couples celebrating their honeymoons or anniversary, to just relax and connect.

WHO IS THIS RESORT NOT FOR?

  • If having an ocean view right from your room is a must-have for you, especially if you love starting your day watching the sunrise over the sea to the sound of waves, then this resort might not be the best fit. It doesn't offer ocean views from most of its accommodations – except, of course, if you're staying in the exclusive Secrets Beachfront Villa.

  • This resort may not be the best fit for those with mobility challenges, including the elderly or individuals who rely on wheelchairs. The layout and infrastructure of the property could present difficulties for guests requiring ease of access or special accommodations, as it's not ideally equipped to cater to these needs, at least in my opinion. Keep this in mind when planning any type of multi-generational trip such as a destination wedding.

  • This resort is not for those for those who thrive on high-energy environments! It tends to be quite tranquil in the evenings. Although it does offer some lively activities like foam parties, which isn’t typical from the usual Secrets vibe, the real buzz is off-property in Tulum's nightclubs, beach clubs, and other hotspots. Secrets Tulum feels more like a serene getaway, perfect for unwinding after a day filled with the party scene of Tulum. So, if you're all about energy and excitement, you'll have a blast, but you'll likely find it outside the resort's boundaries.

  • Secrets Tulum might not be the ideal choice for those sticking to a strict budget. Starting at around $300 per person per night, the cost of staying here is on the higher side, and it's likely to increase once the resort fully completes its construction and smoothens out its initial operational wrinkles. Tulum as a destination just simply carries a higher price tag. For instance, a short cab ride we took, which was less than five miles, cost us $40 –This is just a glimpse of the higher expenses that are typical in this region.

A Weekend in the Texas Hill Country

An Outsider’s Inside Guide…

To a perfect weekend in the Texas Hill Country (specifically New Braunfels).

I’m not a local (yet)…but I feel like I visit New Braunfels enough to give a few expert opinions on things you have to do if you have 2 or 3 days in this beautiful Texas town.

Yes, of course you have the usual things in Gruene.…and you should for sure do those…but if you really want to experience this town like the locals do, then follow along!

Eat and Drink like the locals….

There are so many amazing places to eat but I have to stress the importance of stopping by each of these places for different reasons!

  1. Calahans Pub and Pizza - After a LONG day of floating there is nothing better in this world than their pizza rolls. Just trust me…go and order them. Honestly, one per person is enough (they’re huge!), but you’ll likely want two! You also have to take a picture with the pizza wings that are on the side of the building!

  2. Muck and Fuss - Everything on the menu is delicious but my favorite things are the Truffle Fries, the Havarti Jam Burger, and their Muck’s Cow Mule (a frozen Moscow Mule!!!). If you’re really wanting to treat yourself and indulge, then finish it all off with a BOOZY Coffee Shake!!! I will say…we know a lot of locals, so this might not actually be a local place to eat..but the Muck’s Cow Mule is worth it!!!

  3. Sidecar -Where Quality meets Craft….when you walk down the steps into this almost “speakeasy” of a bar you are in for a treat! With live jazz music several nights a week, high quality drinks and food, you will fall in love! You NEED a reservation here, even if it’s just to stop by and grab a drink!

  4. La Cosecha - Literally here is what you need to order - Deluxe Guac, Queso Fundido, Wagyu Steak fajitas, and a Red Bell Pepper Margarita

  5. Downtown Social - This is a must visit every single time we’re in town! They have everything from bowling, pool, ping pong, drinks, food to trivia! There’s a reason you will find locals here so often! When you get tired of games and you’re ready to drink then walk right out side to the….

  6. The Pour Haus - When the sun goes down (on my side of town), this is where we head! It’s for sure the place to be with live music and great drinks. There is a reason why it was voted best bar in New Braunfels…also it’s very dog friendly!

Float like the locals…

To be honest, if you really want to float the Comal like the locals, then you’ll need your own tubes…but if you want to rent a tube, then I highly recommend….

  1. Texas Tubes - This rental offers a longer float and you don’t have to use the last public exit. They have their own exit just a bit down the river!

  2. The Float In - If you’re wanting to hang out on the Comal, but you don’t actually want to float, then the Float In is perfect! They have private cabanas, live music, food, and drinks right on the Comal!

  3. Corner Tubes

As a reminder, no disposable containers of ANY kind are allowed on the Comal. Please do not play around with this. We have watched the police pull people out of the river, dump all their cans, and fine them! Simply put all your drinks in reusable bottles/tumblers. Same for food! I’ll link my favorites below!

Shop like the locals…

This amazing little town has some of the best shopping around! If you’re looking to shop local make sure to check out….

  1. The Local - This is the place for all things Texas Hill Country…and just cute things in general! It is a MUST. After stopping by Calahans for pizza rolls, just stroll right down to this cute boutique and grab a cap, shirt, or jewelry! Seriously, I am obsessed with everything in the store!

  2. NF Farmers Market - Every Saturday from 9 AM to 1 PM you can get the best locally grown fruits, flowers, baked good and so much more! We are such a huge fan of this market!

  3. River Rose Boutique - I travel frequently, and I always stop by this shop to grab a few outfits! They have some of the best outfits for a night out, vacation and all the in between.

River Essentials…

We have floated so many times that we have the essentials down! Follow the links for any and everything you might need for your river trip! (Some links are comissionable)

  1. Waterproof Bag - I absolutely love this one!

  2. Waterproof Case - This holds all our important items like phones, cards, cash, etc.

  3. Comal Approved Keg - If you enjoy your beer without it being flat or hot, this is an ESSENTIAL for the Comal. Cans aren’t allowed, so this keeps your beer fresh!

  4. The BEST Stanley knockoff out there! Again, only reusable drink containers can be used for the Comal…and THIS is the best Stanley knockoff out there! Just trust me.

  5. Sun Bum- Everyone has their favorite and this is mine! Make sure to stock up for the river and reapply often!

  6. Scalp Sunscreen - Don’t make the mistake I made….if you are wearing your hair in space buns, pig tails, braids, etc….just click buy.

If you visit Texas, of if you’re from Texas, then New Braunfels and the Comal River should be at the top of your list of places to visit!

Every single time we leave we start thinking of our next trip up!

Is the Hilton Cancun the Right Resort for You?

A family-friendly, ocean front, all-inclusive resort, just 15 miles from the Cancun airport.

It can be extremely tough narrowing down your choices when it comes to a resort for your vacation. You read and research, and sometimes it doesn’t make it any easier. I hope to help with that! I travel throughout the year to resorts to give real life reviews, this way I can help you decide if the resort is perfect for you.

So, let’s get to it. Is the Hilton Cancun the right resort for you?

ABOUT THE RESORT

The Hilton Cancun is a quick 15 minute drive from the Cancun airport. It’s nestled deep into a mangrove forest preserve. The hotel boasts a little over 700 rooms, with some options being suites. The resort features 12 all-inclusive dining options, 2 infinity pools, a splash pad and slides, several bars, a health club, kids and teen clubs, as well as an ice cream and churro shop.

CHECK-IN

It was about 2 PM when I arrived at the resort, and I am used to being welcomed with a welcome drink and a cool towel. Unfortunately, neither were offered. Now, maybe I arrived at the wrong time, and they just weren’t prepared. Of course, I could easily walk to the lobby bar, so not a huge deal, just a little something I took note of.

Other than that, check-in was pretty quick, and my room was ready upon arrival, and that’s always nice! The lobby is absolutely stunning, and I love the large bar there! I spent countless hours there working during the day time.

THE ROOMS

For starters, I love the minimalistic style of the rooms. It felt very modern, with warm touches from the wood. While the hallways walking to the rooms feels very “hotelish” (Is that a word? It is now.), the rooms themselves very much felt more upscale than your typical Hilton or other hotel chain.

The rooms are spread between two connected wings, each with it’s own pool area. The wing in front of the kids’ pool area could potentially be a bit noisier than the other wing. I was in the wing behind the adult’s pool area, and it was nice and quiet. There are multiple room categories from tropical view, to ocean view, to swim-ups.

To me, unless budget just absolutely does not allow, you should always opt for at least ocean view. You’ve flown all this way to get to the ocean, you need to be able to wake up and have your morning coffee overlooking it. The regular rooms looked great, but if you’re traveling with older kiddos or anyone other than your significant other, I would opt for a suite. The main reason for saying that is the restroom area in the regular rooms are only separated from the sleeping area by a glass wall. Now the shower and toilet have their own area with frosted glass doors that do offer more privacy. However, if you’re in the company of others, you would need to change in the actual shower for any type of privacy.

The bed was super comfortable and the room was spotless. All rooms have a closet, safe, robes, a blow dryer, and restroom amenities. They also all have a mini-bar with different sodas, beers, peanuts, potato chips and a few other snacks. This is, of course, all included at no extra charge.

AMENITIES

Let’s talk about the pools. On each wing of the resort you’ll find an infinity pool, they look almost exactly the same. However, one that is next to the slides, splash pad and kids club seemed to attract more families. While the other infinity pool seems to attract more adults. With that said, kids are free to enjoy either pool, the resort does not have an “adults’ only pool”.

I never had a single issue finding a pool chair. As a matter of fact, even the day I didn’t arrive at the pool until after 2, I was still able to find one easily. I did notice there weren’t any cabanas, not even for an extra fee. Maybe in time they will bring these in.

There is a kids’ club with a ton of fun activities throughout the day. There was also a club for teens ages 13-17 with sports activities and things that are more teen designed.

The beach is very thin…let me explain that because my husband didn’t understand the term. The beach is very long, but it’s a “deep” beach area. You don’t have a huge, expansive beach to lay out on. It is very important to note that this resort is hit very hard during Sargassum season (April- September). I visited in January and there was just a little, but by June it will be overrun.

The gym was a bit small for a 700+ plus room resort, but it had everything one would need for a quick workout to get your heart rate up. There were a few fitness classes, but again, not many.

The resort does have nightly shows, but other than performances geared towards kids and families, there isn’t much at all for adults. There is no night club or even a dj playing music in the lobby. The entire resort shut down very early.

Lastly, the Hilton doesn’t have a spa on site, however, guests do have access to the spa at the connecting Waldorf Astoria, and it is stunning.

FOOD AND DRINKS

With 12 different dining options, there is something for everyone. All food and drinks are included with your stay, as this is a true all-inclusive resort. Most options do require a reservation which can be made the day of via the app. If you can’t get reservations, it’s always worth going up when you’re ready to eat and see if they can squeeze you in. They can almost always fit you in.

I would say the food and drink quality is a bit above average for all-inclusive resorts. I can say I have had better, and I’ve definitely had worse. Nothing stuck out as mind blowing, but I was also not disappointed in anything I either.

I did love that availability of bars. I also enjoyed their margaritas with a Tajín rim. I truly believe resorts that offer Tajín are superior to those that do not. They did have higher end alcohol which was nice. I had multiple Grey Goose sodas.

SERVICE

Hilton is new to the all-inclusive world, and I do believe their service could be a bit better. At least at Hilton Cancun. Again, it’s nitpicky, but not having someone greet me upon check-in with a drink and cool towel was a bit disheartening. Also, no one escorted me to the check-in area, which sounds so whiney, but I’m giving an honest review. My first day at the pool, not a single server helped me. After 45 minutes in a pool chair, I had to go and find a drink myself. I was a little put off by this.

However, the longer I stayed the better the service got. By the end of my stay, I was very happy with the service provided. I will also say, the staff was very friendly and always had a smile.

SO, WHO IS THIS RESORT FOR?

  • This resort would be perfect for someone with smaller kiddos that wants a quick 2-3 day stay in Cancun and doesn’t want to travel far. I told my husband, I would come back for a quick weekend getaway with our 13 month old. It’s very kid friendly, and with the resort having a smaller setup, you’re not having to walk miles and miles to get back to the room for a little one’s nap time.

  • It would be great for someone that needs a quick option near the Cancun airport. If potentially your flight was cancelled, or you have an early morning flight, this would be the perfect option for a quick overnight stay close to the airport.

  • This would be GREAT for a company retreat! Transfers in and out for groups would be quick and easy. You could have meetings in the convention center, and everyone would truly have a good time and be well taken care of.

  • This would be the perfect choice for someone that wants to escape reality and simply lounge by the pool with a great book and unlimited alcohol.

  • This resort would be perfect for South Asian and Indian DestinationWeddings, as the amphitheater and convention center would be an absolutely perfect wedding venue for the ceremony.

  • Rates at Hilton Cancun are on the lower end, so it is very budget friendly. This would be a great resort for guests wanting to get away, but do not want to break the bank.

WHO IS THIS RESORT NOT FOR?

  • This resort is not for someone that wants a huge beach with lots of water sports and activities like beach volleyball. You will simply not find that here. As stated before, this resort is hit very, very hard during sargassum season. Meaning you will not be able to enjoy the ocean during that time. If you are a beach person, this might not be the perfect choice for you.

  • It’s not for someone that HAS TO HAVE a swim-up bar, you will also not find that at this resort. There are plenty of bars, and there are bars very close to the pool, but you will not find a true swim-up bar here.

  • It’s not for guests that prefer a high energy resort. The resort closes down pretty early. There isn’t any live music or DJs playing at the pool.

  • Hilton Cancun is not for foodies, which can be said for many all-inclusive resorts. Again, the food was not bad, it was great for the price you pay for this all-inclusive, however, it’s not for foodies.

Hopefully this review is helpful and either solidifies that Hilton Cancun is 100% for you, or 100% not your style.

If my review helps you decide to visit Hilton Cancun, I would love to book your next stay! If you’ve decided it’s not for you, and you are unsure of where you should stay, I would love the opportunity to help style your next trip with a custom proposal.

Newborn Necessities

The lists of needs for a newborn is unending when you start searching online! How do you know what you’ll really use vs what everyone says you’ll use! Are the more expensive items worth the money? Or can you go with something a little more budget friendly?

I’ve put together a list of things that we have used since coming home from the hospital with our new baby girl.

Hopefully it helps!

I love this bassinet! I searched online for a while before deciding on this one. I love that it can swivel over the bed, so the night time feedings do not require me to get out of my cozy spot!

HALO BassiNest Swivel Sleeper Essentia

Let’s talk breast pumps…. I wasn’t sure if I would breastfeed, and I didn’t want to spend a ton of money on an expensive pump and then never use it. I saw review after review for this one on TikTok, so I decided to try it! It’s perfect! It’s only $119 on Amazon vs the $500 Elvie or Willow pumps.

Of course, you could always splurge if you KNOW 10000% you are going to produce milk and breastfeed. Just coming from past pregnancies I knew that there was a chance I wouldn’t produce enough milk, so I didn’t want to splurge. This pump is perfect for me!

Momcozy Breast Pump

Again, so many options out there…and some are insanely overpriced…

I have used this sanitizer with all THREE of my children! Yes, I had it put up in a closet and pulled it out for this newest baby (10 years after my last baby!). It is so convenient. I just fill it up, throw it in the microwave and I’m done! And it’s less than $20, which is a win!

Avent Sanitizer

This is a splurge…but so worth the money! I can literally fit a ton of diapers, wipes, extra clothes, burp rags, a can of formula, pacis, allllll the things baby needs in here! I love that it’s a backpack and also that it’s masculine enough that my husband can carry it as well! Super versatile and the quality is great! 10/10 recommend!

Freshly Picked Diaper Bag

Swaddles! These are a life saver! I can not for the life of me swaddle my baby in a regular blanket without her busting out of it! The velcro options make it so easy and baby stays nice and tight all night long! If you’re not sure about swaddling I encourage you to look up the benefits of it!

These are my go to swaddles, and there are so many cute options!

Aden + Anais Essentials Easy Wrap Swaddle

A paci holder! I would say this is more of a want than a need, but it is nice to have! I love that I don’t have to dig down in the baby bag to find a paci quickly when needed! This easily attaches to the side of the diaper bag and holds two pacis! I also love the colors and this brand in general!

Mushie Silicone Pacifier Holder Case

Burp Rags! I use these more than bibs at this age. Any burp rag will do, but if you want to splurge on a higher quality, then I recommend these. I love that they have a cut out area to fit under the baby’s chin to use in place of a bib. They are super soft and 100% organic cotton.

These also make great gifts if you’re searching for a baby shower gift!

Mushie Muslin Baby Burp Cloths

I wouldn’t consider this a splurge, I would consider this a NEED! This is a great option to request as your gift from the hostess if you’re having a baby shower to save you a little money. We have used this so much! The baby sleeps so soundly while in this! We are able to take it with us places as well so she has a cozy place to rest when visiting friends and family.

DockATot Deluxe+ Dock

Knotted gowns are a personal fav for the first few months. They make night time changing so much easier than having to unbutton and unzip! I have so many favorite brands, so I’ll link a few along with images!

Stroller Society Knotted Newborn Baby Gown

Milk Maid Goods (a splurge but worth the money!)

Spearmint Love Gown
